The In the Spirit: Northwest Native Arts Market and Festival will once again include an opportunity for patrons and supporters of Native arts to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the art forms of the Northwest region. Tina Kuckkahn (Ojibwe), director of the Longhouse Education and Cultural Center, will facilitate Understanding Northwest Native Art, a collector's seminar featuring Northwest Native artists and a collector of historic Native art.

Internationally acclaimed artist Lillian Pitt (Warm Springs/Wasco/Yakama) will discuss her work. Roger Fernandes (Lower Elwha Klallam), who works in a variety of art media, will discuss Coast and Puget Salish arts and cultures. Melissa Bob (Lummi) will present some of her work as a young, contemporary Salish artist. Jack Curtright, owner of Curtright and Son in Tacoma, will share what to look for in the field of collecting historic tribal art.

Tribal Art Appraisals
Saturday, June 28, 2008, 4:00-5:00 PM

Immediately following the seminar, from 4 to 5 PM, Jack Curtright will be conducting historic tribal art appraisals. The appraisal fee is $5.00 per item. Appraisals will be done on a first come, first served basis.

Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to get tribal artworks appraised. Following the Collector's Seminar, Jack Curtright will be conducting historic tribal art appraisals on a first come, first served basis. The appraisal fee is $5.00 per item, with half of the proceeds going towards the next Native Arts Market & Festival. Payment is due at the time of appraisal. Items should be no larger than what can easily be carried as the History Museum will not be able to provide assistance moving items.
